A step-by-step guide for making vegan tacos — at home in a few easy steps.
Smoky, spicy, flavorful & plant-based! Insanely delicious and so easy to make.
What you need:
20 oz can jackfruit in water or brine (make sure it’s not in syrup)
1 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 can tomatoes
100 ml water (more if needed)
1/2 big white onion
3 cloves chopped garlic
1 tbsp agave syrup
1 tbsp white wine vinegar
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp smoked paprika powder
1 tsp chili flakes or powder
Dash of salt
Additionally for serving:
Tortillas. Use corn if you want to avoid gluten
Shredded red cabbage
Sauces: Habanero, Tamulada, Chipotle, etc.
What to do:
Rinse and drain the jackfruit
In a heated large pan, add coconut oil and saute chopped onion and garlic for a few minutes. Once golden, add all other ingredients, stir well and cover. Cook for 20-25* minutes, stir occasionally. Add more water anytime if needed.
*after 20 minutes of cooking and when jackfruit is already cooked enough shred it with two forks for “pulled jackfruit” texture.
Enjoy with tortillas, red cabbage, avocados, salsa, cilantro, lime juice & definitely different hot sauces!
