Started my journey with green smoothies 3 weeks ago after a trip to Mexico to visit my father inlaw he started taking me on his very early morning runs to this smoothie stand in a "Ranchito" or "Ranch" this lady made the most awesome green smoothies using Nopal aka Cacti and Aloe vera Spinach and celery fresh pineapple flax seed i was so out my league I was hesitant to try but Wow what a flavor explosion. So now I'm back home in USA & making them at home.. I'm loving the results the clean feeling my insides have.. Lol Thank u to my father inlaw. ❤

Note to self: Green smoothies: pick 1 leafy green and rotate. Keep it simple for your digestion. Yes: kale, spinach, collard greens, swiss chard, bok choy, pok choi, dandelions, plantain, curly dock – used /measured as a handful or 2 handfuls (so 1 collard green leaf is good for a serving) stems add a sharper flavour so don't use these (or do if you like) No: (unpleasant/ strong flavors) any lettuce greens, arugula, rapini

Pick 1 – 2 fruits YES: bananas, pineapples, apricots, smooth berries, peaches, pears, plums, papayas NO: melons (melons are best by themselves).

Room temperature best for digestion, slightly chilled is second best. Fresh, or if necessary frozen, but not dried.

(From other video, sip the antioxidant smoothie little by little over the day so you don't have an "antioxidant crash" which can have you antiox go down far less than it was before you had the high amount of antioxidants. From other info, buy organic.)

A small amount of avocado adds calories, nutrients, and creaminess. For good flavour profile or an okay omega ratio, can add flax, chia or hemp. Can add a bit of nutrient powders as well. Can add small handful or couple tbsp of raw, soaked nuts. Yes: almonds, cashews. Remember to keep it simple. Best to add water over processed milks, juices, or even just coconut water which is kind of expensive and still packaged. Green smoothies tend to be 3- 400 calories.

Claire Mullin says:

I have a second question. Do you ever make a beet smoothie. I make one using 1 medium beet, 1 apple, 1 medium carrot and 1 cup of water and juice of 1lemon.

Claire Mullin says:

Hello, Your videos are a favourite source of info for me, thank-you. I started making green smoothies to start my day about 2 months ago. I use a combo of 2 leafy greens , choosing from spinach, kale, cabbage, Swiss chard . I haven’t tried bok choy yet but plan to later. I also add celery and cucumber, an apple and a banana, 1 tbsp. cacao, I tbsp. hemp hearts, 1tbsp chia seeds , 1tsp.spirulina, juice of 1lemon, sliver of fresh turmeric and fresh ginger and 2cups water as I use a lot of veggies to make enough for 2days. After watching your video I will switch from using hemp to adding ground flax instead. I drink my green smoothies the first thing every morning. My question is, does eating all these raw veggies put you at risk of developing kidney stones as a friend recently told me it could and now I am concerned. I usually have a salad for lunch so have more raw veggies then.
